Memorial Day and “Thank you for your service”

If this sounds like a cranky old Vet, it is.  But when less than 1% serve their country in the military. the automatic “Thank you for your service” rings a little hollow.  It is becoming cliché like “Have a nice Day” and “Do you “want fries with that burger?”.  As far as I know all able body and mentally fit people can still serve in the military.

We are asked to celebrate a myriad of diversity and the “courage” of declaring ones sexuality which most people don’t care about in that context, but not the courage of military service.

Of course, there will be some sparsely attended Memorial Day ceremonies today.

To those who served, we are in your debt.  Hopefully more will join you in serving their country and be thanked for their service.
